Diaspora Literacy, a mode of reading by Caribbean theorist Veve Clark, is one of the foundational frameworks for Decolonize The Art World. Although written concerning Literary criticism, this rejection of the canon in place of intertextuality, applies across art forms and place- more on expansive art histories in our previous ‘what is art history’ visual essay + syllabus on are.na. Clark names Africa, Afro-America and The Caribbean, and I would take it further to Europe, Asia and the entire globe- diaspora extends past the routes we frequently imagine.
